Sen. Cortez Masto Celebrates the Opening of New Latino-Owned Small Businesses, San Francisco Bay Restaurant

Jul 29, 2022

Las Vegas, NV – Today, Senator Catherine Cortez Masto joined Gustavo and Norma Aguilar to celebrate the opening of their new business, San Francisco Bay Restaurant. The Aguilar’s first business, Blueberry Jewelers, was able to stay open during the pandemic thanks to loans secured by Senator Cortez Masto, and it’s doing so well that they decided to open up this new restaurant right next door.

“This is what Nevada – and our Latino community – is all about. People move here, they work hard, and they create a better life for their children,” said Senator Cortez Masto. “I was proud to deliver the small business relief to help you all at Blueberry Jewelers, and now we can see how important that work was – it’s why we are all able to stand here today and celebrate San Francisco Bay.”

“My wife Norma and I have always supported each other to provide for our family and build our American Dream together. Senator Cortez Masto‘s support has been critical to the success of our first business, Blueberry Jewelers, and thanks to her we are proud to have opened this new restaurant for our community to enjoy,” said Gustavo Aguilar. “She is a champion for business owners like us, and we’re proud to know she has our backs.”

A third generation Nevadan, Cortez Masto is the first and only Latina elected to the U.S. Senate, where she has led efforts to support Nevada small businesses. During the pandemic, Cortez Masto fought to deliver critical relief funding to Nevada, helping over 118,000 businesses keep their doors open and their employees paid, and she’s leading bipartisan legislation to make it easier to start and grow a new business in Nevada.

In stark contrast, her opponent Adam Laxalt has consistently attacked Nevada’s small businesses, saying that Nevadans losing their jobs and Hispanic small businesses closing was “good news for him.
